Elder gossip
by Jumongi ini'll try to keep this short.
my experience at the hall is elders not really engaging in friendship building communication with anyone.
the only time they really communicate with you is to counsel you or tell you where you need to make adjustments.

"This is a very different argument - now it seems that you're suggesting that Monsanto should fall under some sort of anti-trust action. From what little I know, this seems reasonable."
I haven't figured out exactly what the official position from government should be but I would consider anti-trust action to be an option.
"Your original statement, however, was an argument essentially stating that GMO R&D was an endeavor that did not deserve to be profitable in and of itself."
That's not what I meant. Less profit yes, but that's because I'm against profiteering not profit itself.

"That's not a valid argument. That's like saying Honda should have to give away motorcycles for free and then arguing that this is fair because they still make plenty of money off their car sales."
Giving away GMO seeds was not my point it is an issue of making farmers dependent on monopolized seeds.

I'm a moderate on this issue but there are some deficiencies in the arguments made by the video.
For example, at the 10 minute mark the video states that after having been consumed for decades there is no evidence that GMOs have harmed anyone. How would he know? It would take a massive epidemiological survey to find if one out of a hundred people were to have a reaction to a specific GMO product. The person who consumes it might not even know what would be the cause of his allergy.
At the 8:55 mark he states that one of the reasons that GMOs foods are attacked so viciously is because of the fear of monopolies. Then he says that the "larger debates" about economics is "out of our league". That's the same as saying nothing at all about one of the most critical points of the issue.

"On the other hand, I recognize that a company would soon go bankrupt if they didn't restrict the use of seeds, and then you wouldn't have innovations, or corners would start to get cut."
Monsanto would not go bankrupt because it already had a steady stream of income from other products such as selling non-GMO hybrid seeds to farmers.
"Before any GMO product goes to market, it is tested thoroughly. I don't know what tests they perform (I'm by no means an expert), but I would imagine allergy tests would certainly be one of them since it's a product for consumption."
That's an assumption that I care not take for granted.

My issue with GMOs is not whether they're safe - I believe they are though there could be exceptions - but whether you can grow crops from them from seed.
They're considered "intellectual" property and are made with a termination date so that farmers have to keep buying the seed.
Another issue is disclosure. If they were, for example, to use peanut genes in corn and a consumer has a major allergy to peanuts then that could be a problem. The product should come with a notice stating what it contains so that the consumer can make an informed decision.

This newly leaked letter PROVES the WTS are hypocrates and do not speak the truth.
by Dunedain inafter reading this newly leaked letter, something profoundly "hit" me.
myself, being born a "witness", and most of us here, who have learned their teachings for years, know of the "importance" the gb/wts always placed on the watchtower and awake magazines, themselves.. from the magazines inception, from back in probably the 1920's, or somewhere that far back, the wts claimed that the preaching work, and specifically the distribution of these magazines, were a sign of the times, and a fulfilment of bible prophecy in these last days.
they would compare the watchtower magazine to a "stinging scorpion", claiming those magazines fulfilled that verse in revelation.

Perry:
"I have long seen similarities between the Armstrong organization and the Watchtower."
They both had their 1975 fiasco.
"At some point, the GB are going to have to jettisone the dating of second coming at 1914."
Not necessarily. They'll simply forget the "Generation" teaching which weighs like an anchor on their ship of false prophecies.
"When that happens, the general membership will be allowed to have a relationship with Christ through the New Covenant like they did in the beginning."
So long as they're tied in to their 144,000/great crowd teaching they will make the 144,000 seem as elite as possible and thus restrict the Ransom sacrifice to them. Also, Jesus has been a cardboard figure to them for too long. He's merely an afterthought in their prayers.

How did your close JWs react when they found out you know TTATT?
by ivanatahan ini'm not sure if this topic has ever been posted (surely, i believe it has), but it would be interesting to revive such a topic and hear your stories!.
when my parents heard my first rant (after they told me to be home schooled when i was caught kissing a girl) they entered into a long depression that continues to this day.
my father suffers knowing his once amazing family is now divided, and my mother is equally angry.

When my "best" JW friend found out that I maybe disfellowshipped (for apostasy) he returned all but one of various items that I had entrusted with him for safekeeping. Several years after my disfellowshipping he, without letting me know, placed the last remaining item at my door almost causing a person to trip over it.
